Charter Change: An major leadership act far way behind the people's needs
Thursday, June 18, 2009 01:39:18 PM

Statement of Position and Call to Action on Charter Change

As students of Ateneo de Davao University de Davao University and youth of this country, let this be our position and our call for us to unite with those who have already expressed opposition to hasty attempts in amending our constitution and condemnation to selfish and unchristian acts of our leaders who railroaded the passage of House Resolution 1109 convening themselves as a constituent assembly (con-ass) for the said purpose.

The act was more than a revelation of the real motives or agenda of the people behind charter change (cha-cha). However they deny it, or whichever way they want to call it, extension in the seat of power is stinking. In recent surveys, more and more Filipinos dislike or disagree with the idea of term extension for Ms. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the rest of the current government officials.

In addition to this, more contentious is the content of proposed amendments – on e of which is the overhaul of the Philippine economic policies, more specifically the removal of economic restrictions that would allow foreign corporations to own 100% of Philippine’s mineral and natural resources. A act of betrayal to our national patrimony and sovereignty.

Needless to say, charter change, of any mode or by any name, is not on top of the immediate solutions to the country’s pressing problems – jobs, social services, education and human rights.

Osama:Here We Go Again! by Erick San Juan
Sunday, June 07, 2009 04:00:17 PM

"Osama bin dead" for so many years is being reactivated again ala El Cid to create a hysteria in time for a global turbulence being programmed by a clique of evil genius. When will the people of the world be awakened to the sinister design of these ruthless so called "Reptilians"?

Remember when bin Laden's imagery was used in a computer manipulated video showing him in a pink robe during the US presidential elections between Bush and Gore?. Many especially from the Muslim community were amazed to see a "mujahideen" wearing pink instead of the usual white or black robe.

The other day,in time for the visit of U.S. President Barack Obama in Egypt where he addressed the Muslim world, a reported audio of Osama bin Laden was released by Al Jazeera news saying that President Obama was committing the same folly like Bush(former Pres, George Bush,Jr.). He added that America should better be prepared for the consequences of the similarities.

After the death of Bin Laden, the CIA unit headed by then Deputy Director Michael Scheuer monitoring Osama was dismantled, so thus, the other intelligence agencies. Even my colleagues from the Asia Media Forum who came from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey and India confirmed Osama's death. They are in one that Osama was killed when his airconditioned underground safehouse in the mountain of Tora Bora was heavily bombed. Even the late Benazir Bhutto affirmed bin Laden's death.

What's the significance of Osama's threat? It was timed when the American leader, President Obama is seeking a better relationship with the Muslims and at the same time rallying the Muslims against extremism. Even if President Obama is acting in good faith, the speech drew mixed reactions, others are still suspicious while many believe that it could be a double talk. The hardliners among them want to believe Obama but not it"s governments foreign policy.

They are wary and vigilant everytime they're visited by American officials who they believe are just assets or agents of the so called "Reptilians" in the western governments.

Statement On The Speech Of President Barack Hussein Obama At Cairo University by Abhoud Syed M. Lingga
Friday, June 05, 2009 09:30:33 AM

The speech of President Barack Hussein Obama at Cairo University was a landmark as far as relations between the Muslim world and the United States is concerned. If followed by concrete actions it will certainly change the landscape of the relationship in the future.

Although short of specifics but the speech was the boldest, balanced and frank statement coming from a president of the United States.

His acknowledgement of the Muslim’s contributions to human civiliztion and in building the American nation, as well as the suffering of Muslims under colonialism, is a good starter for fruitful dialogue between the U.S. and the Muslim world.

I really appreciate the President’s candidness in discussing the major sources of tension and what he intend to do in addressing them.

Specifically, what interest me are his proposals on engaing the Muslims through education, science and technology, and economic development. These programs will not only benefit Muslims in Muslim-majority countries but also Muslim minorities like the Bangsamoro people.

The concept of creating “a new corps of business volunteers to partner with counterparts in Muslim-majority countries” is indeed interesting because it juxtapose with the idea that I always hold that development of Muslim communities in the Bangsamoro homeland has to be driven by Bangsamoro entrepreneurship to be sustainable, not by programs of government and aid agencies.

The first day of school year 2009-2010 kicked off today, 1st day of June. Pupils and students in public elementary and secondary schools in Kidapawan City were so excited to begin the school year right, by coming to school early. The school gates were widely open for the coming learners; some were even accompanied and assisted by their parents.
