PAGADIAN CITY – Police arrested a man who pretended to be an anti-narcotics agent and recruited informant in exchange for money in southern Philippines, officials said Sunday.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, a regional police spokesperson, said the 38-year old Jonathan Laranjo was caught in an entrapment set by the police in Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte province on September 9 following a tipoff from informants in the area.
Laranjo passed himself off as a member of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency based in Zamboanga del Norte. He was also carrying a fake PDEA identification card when nabbed by policemen.
It was unknown how many people Laranjo had recruited to work as a civilian agent or informant and how much he collected from them, but Galvez said police were investigating the man who is facing criminal charges for usurpation of authority. (Mindanao Examiner)
