Tuesday, February 26, 2008 08:16:02 PM

WOODBRIDGE: A 37-year-old Philippines native was taken to the Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston after hot fuel oil splashed on his face, left eye and left arm.

Police were called to the Hess Refinery, 881 West Ave., in the Sewaren section of the township around 9:15 p.m. Sunday. A shift supervisor reported there had been an industrial accident on the tanker ship at the dock.

The ship is based in Bari, Italy, and is operated by Millenia Maritime Inc. in Athens, Greece.

Jamie T. Caliqayahan had been splashed with hot No. 6 fuel oil. The ship's captain, Dario Verni, said Caliqayahan had been removing a stuck item when it came undone, and he was splashed with the hot oil.
