THE BLACK WOMEN ON SILVER SCREEN FILM FESTIVAL

The Embassy of the United States of American in Manila and the University of the Philippines Film Institute present a film festival entitled “Black Women on the Silver Screen”.

Scheduled on Monday and Tuesday, March 3-4, 2008 at the UP Film Institute, the festival celebrates both the Black History Month (February) and Women’s History Month (March). The films featured in the festival pay tribute to African American actresses who have made significant contributions to the motion picture industry.

February marks the Black History Month in the United States. It celebrates the many contributions African Americans have made to the nation and serves as a reminder of their courage in their struggle to gain full civil rights as American citizens while contributing greatly to the realms of politics, business, entertainment, education, and culture of the United States. The U.S. marks Women’s History Month in March. The vision and determination of women have strengthened and transformed America. As we celebrate Women's History Month, we recognize the vital contributions women have made to our country.
