
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 4, 2014) – Police arrested Sunday a man it said is a wanted Abu Sayyaf militant involved in the spate of kidnappings more than a decade ago in the southern Filipino province of Sulu.
Police said the man was working as a security guard on a market store in downtown Zamboanga when arrested by intelligence agents.
No other details were provided by the police except that the man, who uses the alias Kim, is currently being investigated over his alleged role in the kidnappings.
It was also unknown how the man managed to stay undetected for many years while working just several blocks away from the main police headquarters.
Authorities have linked the Abu Sayyaf to al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiya and tagged as behind the series of terror attacks and kidnappings for ransom in the Philippines. (Mindanao Examiner)
