TACURONG CITY – Two unidentified men on a motorcycle exploded a fragmentation grenade at a police headquarters in Tacurong City in southern Philippines, but officials said there were no casualties in the attack.
The motive of the attack is still unknown, but police investigator Jasper Garcia said the blast occurred late Sunday and targeted the headquarters of the Highway Patrol Group. The grenade exploded just outside the headquarters.
“We are still investigating the attack and this could be connected to the relentless campaign of the Highway Patrol Group,” he said.
He said they have recovered the safety lever of the MK2 used in the attack. The assailants fled immediately after the attack.
SPO3 Remigio Balayo, the patrol’s team leader, said the attack will not deter the police in its campaign in Tacurong and nearby areas. “This is just part of the hazards of our job and we shall continue our operation against those who violate the laws,” he said. (Rose Muneza)
