Malaysians Need To Move Next Level Of Respecting Each Other – PM Najib – Bernama

Editor January 16, 2016

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Saturday said that Malaysia is committed to fighting tooth and nail against any form of terrorism, as well as religious and racial extremism, to maintain peace, harmony and security in the country.

He said news on the series of terror attacks in places like Paris, Istanbul and most recently Jakarta had shaken Malaysians and others around the world.

“It goes to show that peace and harmony are very precious commodities which we cannot take for granted,” he said when opening Wisma Huazong in Seri Kembangan near here.

He stressed that the only way towards peace and harmony was for all communities in the country to join hands to achieve that goal.

Multi-racial Malaysians, he said, should move to the next level in terms of respecting one another, including when using social media platforms.

“We can’t use social media to make fun of each other, to ridicule each other,” Najib said as he called Malaysians to strive for a truly united, just and progressive Malaysia.

Najib said respecting and believing in each other was vital in ensuring what had been built by past leaders continued to the next generation.

“It is important for us to believe in Malaysia because we have come a long way from where we started, but the journey is far from over,” he added.

Meanwhile, the prime minister encouraged more Chinese businessmen to work closely with the Bumiputera community in setting up business enterprises.

“If we can instill the spirit of working together across racial divide in this country, we will break barriers between our different racial entities,” he said.

At the event, Najib announced a contribution of RM3 million from the government to the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) for its activities.

Present at the launching of the RM85 million building were MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Huazong president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah.(Bernama)
