PAGADIANCITY – Three people were killed and four others injured Saturday after a provincial bus overshot the highway in Alicia town in Zamboanga Sibugay province in southern Philippines, police said.
Police said the bus, operated by Lizamay Express, was bound for Zamboanga City from Olutangga town with about four dozen passengers when the driver, Noriel Andico, lost control of the wheel and overshot the highway and landed several feet below.

Three passengers, Gertrudes Baya, 73; Rina Mualam, 14; and Salma Mualam, 35, died instantly from the accident after being thrown out of the bus, according to Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, a regional police spokeswoman.
She said the wounded passengers, Victor Antiampo, 62; Medivina Antiampo, 55; Karim Jarol, 62; and Sapiya Jarol, 62, were rushed to the Lanchita Medical Hospital in nearby Imelda town for emergency treatment. “The driver and the bus are now under the custody of the Alicia police and investigation is going on,” Galvez said.
There was no immediate statement from the bus firm, but the driver is facing criminal charges for the death of the 3 passengers. (Zamboanga Post. With additional reporting from Rhoderick Beñez.)
