MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 12, 2012) – A coalition of various Filipino migrants’ groups active in providing assistance to distress, undocumented, and run-away migrants in the Middle East, has again on Wednesday urged Filipinos working abroad to intensify fund drive to aid the victims of typhoon Bopha in Mindanao.
“We renewed our call to our fellow OFWs and their organizations and to the Filipino communities in the Middle East to help in our fund donations campaign for typhoon Pablo victims,” John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator, said in a statement to the Mindanao Examiner.
Monterona said Migrante affiliates in Mindanao reported that there were at least 40 thousands OFWs dependents that were devastated by the typhoon that hit the southern region on December 4.
“The OFWs dependents were badly affected by typhoon Pablo in Mindanao particularly in Cagayan Valley and Davao Oriental. There were OFWs kin died and their houses destroyed,” Monterona said.
He said Migrante-Davao has been distributing relief goods in remote places of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental provinces since December 8.
Monterona said funds raised by his group will be coursed through the Nonoy Librado Development Foundation Inc., on this Bank of the Philippine Islands (Claveria, Davao City) Account Number 2083-8702-09.
Just recently, Migrante chapters in the Middle East also reactivated its “Sagip Migrante” fund drive aimed at providing aid to OFWs kin affected by the deadly typhoon.
Hundreds of people died in the devastation by typhoon Bopha.
