JOLO, Sulu – Despite the recent exit of Sulu province from the Bangsamoro region, the Bangsamoro Government remains committed to preserving the region’s cultural heritage. On May 21, a formal turnover ceremony was held at Mindanao State University (MSU) – Sulu to officially launch a research project focused on documenting contemporary Bangsamoro history.
“This significant initiative reflects the Bangsamoro Government’s steadfast commitment to preserving, promoting, and institutionalizing the historical narrative of the Bangsamoro people,” said BCPCH-Sulu.
Representing the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH), Chief of Operations Aaron Jeff Usman and Development Management Officer Morshid Tumindig personally handed over a P1-million check to MSU-Sulu officials. The event was also attended by personnel from the BCPCH-Sulu Provincial Office, led by Commissioner Nurkadri Hamsali.
Receiving the funds on behalf of MSU-Sulu were Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Abuzamier Asanji and Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Innovation Dr. Hannbal Bara. Both officials expressed unwavering support for the project and pledged their commitment to its timely completion.
In a statement, MSU-Sulu extended its heartfelt gratitude for BCPCH’s continued partnership with the university despite Sulu exit. The university also noted that the chancellor has formed a dedicated research team tasked with completing the documentation project within the given timeframe.
“In sha Allah, we will strive to complete the documentation of our beloved Lupah Sug’s culture and history. The first part of Sulu’s history is already finished and prepared for publication,” stated Dr. Bara.
This collaboration underscores the Bangsamoro Government’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the historical and cultural narratives of its people, ensuring they are preserved and passed on to future generations. (Alline Jamar M. Undikan/BIO)
