DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 4, 2012) – Security forces rescued over two dozen people trapped Wednesday in flash flood in three villages in Davao Oriental’s Banaybanay town, officials said.
Officials said soldiers and policemen rescued about 31 people in the villages of Panikian, Cabangcalan and Piso. “Those rescued were immediately brought to safer areas where they are temporarily sheltered,” Major Rosa Maria Cristina Manuel, of the 10th Infantry Division, told the Mindanao Examiner.
She said rampaging flood waters brought about by heavy rains submerged the three villages. “There were no reports of casualties, but security forces are still in the area and helping the local government in the evacuation of those affected by flash flood,” Manuel said.
Government weather experts said the heavy rain was triggered by a Low Pressure Area and warned people living in low lying areas and along mountain slopes to be on alert for flash floods and landslides. (Mindanao Examiner)
