Moro group to hold peace forum in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 13, 2012) – The Young Moro Professional Network in Western Mindanao (YMPN-WM) is holding a forum on the government’s peace process in the southern Philippines.

Amir Mawalil, chairman of the YMPN-WM, said the forum, dubbed as “Peace: The Real Score,” will bring together the various actors of the peace process to present their perspectives and outlook of the Mindanao situation.

The forum would also be a venue for the public to know the progress of the peace talks between the Aquino government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, now the country’s largest Muslim rebel group.

“Therefore, we see the holding of this forum appropriate to bring the actors together and engage the public in the discussion and to relay their pulses and be clarified on the dynamics of the issue,” he said.

Participants to the forum, he said, will have the opportunity to share their thoughts about the ongoing peace talks and other issues related to peace and development in Mindanao.

Those expected to attend the forum are Governor Mujiv Hataman, of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao; Assistant Secretary Jehanne Mutin, of the Office of Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process; Commissioner Edil Baddiri, of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos; Samira Tomawis, YMPN Mindanao convener; Executive Director Hanie Bud, of ARMM-Bangsamoro Youth Affairs, among others.

The forum is being co-presented by Interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace with support from The Asia Foundation. (Nuhman Aljani)
