DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 18, 2013) – Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has warned cinemas in Davao City in southern Philippines to tighten its security following two separate attacks that injured 5 people.

The explosions were reported in SM City and Gaisano Cinema and police are still investigating the motive and who were behind the twin attacks. The improvised explosives were hidden in canned soft drinks, according to the police.

No individual or group claimed responsibility for the explosions, but the attacks have worried Duterte, who is known for being tough on criminals in Davao City.

The blasts coincided with fierce fighting in Zamboanga City between security forces and separatist rebels since September 9.

But police said it cannot find any links or connection of the bombings to the violence in Zamboanga, although the blasts sent fears to local residents.
