ILOILO CITY – The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) recognized 82 local government units nationwide for their strong disaster preparedness and commitment to protecting public assets during the 2025 Seal of Protection Awards held in Iloilo City-the first time the event was hosted outside Metro Manila.
“You have chosen preparedness. You have chosen your constituents’ welfare. And your communities are safer because of it.” These were the words of GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso as delivered by Executive Vice President Jason Teng.
Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas welcomed the awardees, noting that insured government properties allow frontline services to continue despite fires, floods, and other unexpected events. She commended the LGUs for protecting not just buildings, but the delivery of services to their constituents.
This year’s Gold Awardees include Bayambang, Lingayen, Urdaneta, Solano, Valenzuela, the Provincial Government of Albay, Basud, San Vicente (Palawan), Bago City, Iloilo City, Davao City, Quezon City, Tanay, Makati City, and Pasig City.

GSIS also cited Makati and Pasig as Hall of Famers for achieving Gold standing for three consecutive cycles since the program began.

In the same event, the GSIS also recognized five institutions for their role in securing government properties, assets, and insurable interests through general insurance. These were the Japan International Cooperation Agency; Asian Development Bank; Department of the Interior and Local Government; Clark Development Corporation; and Iloilo City.
The Seal of Protection program supports Republic Act No. 656, which requires the insurance of government properties. GSIS said the growing number of compliant LGUs reflects a stronger push toward resilient and accountable local governance. (PR)
