ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 4, 2013) – A lone gunman attacked a police officer on Thursday in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, police said.

Police said PO3 Hussin Mushin was shot and wounded in the village called Lower Calarian shortly before noontime. The gunman fled after the shooting, according to Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman.

Mushin, who is assigned at a police detachment in Sacol Island, was rushed to hospital.

Local police Edwin de Ocampo quickly blamed family feud as the motive of the attack.

Gun attacks and killings are a common occurrence in Zamboanga City where hired killers are actively operating. Hundreds of people had been shot and killed here over the past years. (Mindanao Examiner)
