Mindanao Week of Peace launched in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 21, 2011) – The Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) has launched the Mindanao Week of Peace in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines.

Spearheaded by the Interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP), the event was participated by various organizations across the region – Ahlul Bayt Philippine Islamic Assembly, Young Moro Professionals Network-Western Mindanao, Zamboanga AMORES Interfaith Association, Department of Education-School Division of Zamboanga City, Young Peace Weavers of Zamboanga City and the Youth Solidarity for Peace.

This year’s theme, “Common Word between Us and You: Love of God, Love of Neighbor,” strengthened more the grip between Muslims, Christians, and Indigenous People in peace advocacy, organizers said.

“Celebrating peace is like the birthday when we assembled PAZ in Zamboanga City,” said Fr. Angel Calvo, IRSMP lead convener.

“The future of the world depends on peace among Muslims and Christians,” he added. (Berlie Gamaliel Yap and Arwald Candido)
