PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 9, 2013) – Some 1,000 Muslim soldiers under the Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry Division have joined the observance of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Captain Jefferson Somera, a spokesman for the division, said Major Adzramien Sahisa, an imam, led the observance of the Ramadan, one of the five pillars of Islam and one of the most important holiday in the Muslim world.

“The Command joins you as you observe your Holy Month. May this month of Ramadan cleanse your heart and your soul as you renew your faith to our Divine God (Allah). May you include in your prayers and devotion the realization of peace in Mindanao and the whole country for the people, our brothers and sisters, and for our families. May Allah bless us all,” Brigadier General Felicito Virgilio Trinidad, Jr, the acting division commander.

Somera said the soldiers belong mostly to the Tausug, Yakan, Maranao and Maguindanao.
