ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 1, 2013) – Two policemen were shot and killed in separate attacks in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said Monday.

Officials said PO1 Hudan Insang, 35, was driving his motorcycle when the gunman shot him several times.

Insang was assigned in Isabela City in nearby Basilan province, but lived in Manicahaan village in Zamboanga City, according to Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman.

“The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body and was rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center, but died while undergoing emergency treatment,” Huesca said.

He said the victim’s wife told police investigators that her husband was receiving death threats from a man over an unpaid debt. Huesca said the man had been identified by the victim’s wife and an investigation is going on.

The assailant escaped on motorcycle being driven by another man. Their identities were not immediately known.

“Follow-up investigation is being conducted by Criminal Investigation and Detective Management of Zamboanga City Police Office to unmask the identity and arrest the suspects,” Huesca said.

Another policeman, SPO1 Jaafar Jambiran, was also shot by a lone gunman in a mosque in the village called Lower Calarian.

Jambiran was assigned in the Sinunuc police station. His attacker also fled after the killing.

Over 200 people had been killed in Zamboanga City since last year and many of the murders were perpetrated by hired killers who are actively operating here. (Mindanao Examiner)
