THE REPORTED death toll from Typhoon Tino, which submerged a huge part of the Visayas and nearby areas earlier this month, has climbed to 232, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its latest update Tuesday.
The NDRRMC said 150 of the total reported fatalities are from Cebu; 42 from Negros Occidental; 21 from Negros Oriental; six from Agusan del Sur; three from Capiz; two each from Dinagat Island, Southern Leyte and Leyte; and one each from Antique, Bohol, Iloilo and Guimaras.
There are also 112 individuals reported missing – 57 in Cebu, 50 in Negros Occidental, and five in Negros Oriental.
Tino also left 523 people injured, broken down into 451 in Cebu, 41 in Leyte, 28 in Negros Occidental, two in Surigao del Norte, and one in Surigao del Sur.
Families affected by the typhoon are now at 1,186,673 equivalent to 4,164,358 persons residing in 7,695 barangays in eight regions.
As of Tuesday morning, 61,728 families are still being sheltered inside 868 evacuation centers while another 33,030 families are being aided in other places.
Meanwhile, Tino also damaged 134,949 houses and destroyed 20,510 others, the NDRRMC said. Damage to agriculture and infrastructure were estimated at PHP157,952,870 and PHP179,682,035, respectively.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared a one-year state of national calamity due to Tino’s devastation, ordering all government agencies to carry out continuous, urgent response and critical recovery measures for disaster-stricken areas. (PNA)
