PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 7, 2013) – Motorcycle gunmen shot and wounded a policeman and his brother, who is a village chieftain, in a daring attack in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur province, officials said on Saturday.

Officials said the policeman, PO3 Muktar Pagayao, 41, exchanged gun fire with the attackers as he tried to shield themselves from the assailants.

The policeman, assigned in Marawi City; and his younger brother, Mohibat Pagayao, chieftain of Old Labangan in Zamboanga del Sur’s Labangan town, were both wounded in the attack.

The brothers were returning home from a seminar in Springland Hotel and Resort on a motorcycle when the gunmen attacked them along Rizal Avenue in Purok Tapul. The motive of the attack is still unknown and police are investigating the attempt on lives of the two brothers.

Gun attacks are common in Pagadian City due to the presence of hired killers and most of the killings remain unresolved. (Mindanao Examiner)
