Wanted Sayyaf militant captured in Basilan province

BASILAN – Security forces have arrested Saturday an Abu Sayyaf militant linked to mass kidnappings and murders in the southern Filipino province of Basilan, police said.

It said the 57-year old Masser Lim Omar was apprehended on Malamawi Island where he has been hiding after being accused as involved in the kidnappings of students and teachers in Tumahubong village in Sumisip town in March 2000.

Police said Omar has arrest warrants issued by a court in April 2004.

Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, the regional police chief, praised policemen and soldiers for Omar’s capture. Superintendent Restituo Pangusban, of the Isabela City police force, led policemen in the operation after tracking down Omar on the island. (Mindanao Examiner)
