Tight security in Zamboanga

Chief Editor March 15, 2016

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police and military have tightened security in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines following the arrest of 2 men for possessing materials in the manufacture of improvised explosives.

“I have ordered our authorities to intensify their operations against lawless elements. I also commend the police and military for a job well done following the arrest of these two suspects,” said Mayor Beng Climaco.

Security forces raided the hideout of the men – Allan Aging Ajijun, 30, and Asbi Tandih Jama, 21 – and seized from them 6 improvised blasting caps, 2 commercial time fuses and 2 kilos of banned ammonium nitrate, a key component in homemade bombs frequently used by rebels.

The duo is currently being investigated by the police. It was unknown whether they are members of a rebel group, but the two were inhabitants of Tumalutab Island just several nautical miles off Zamboanga City.

The men were arrested by members of the local police force, Naval Intelligence and Security Company, Philippine Marines, Air Intelligence Special Group Field Station Western Mindanao and Naval Special Operation Unit. (Mindanao Examiner)
