COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 15, 2011) – One person was killed and over a dozen injured, including a soldier, in a grenade attack at a small amusement park in the southern Philippines, authorities said Tuesday.
Authorities said the explosion occurred late Monday in the town of Carmen in North Cotabato province. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack that left one civilian dead, police said.
Colonel Noel dela Cruz, a spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division, said the wounded were rushed to hospital in nearby town of Kabacan. “We still don’t know the motive of the attack,” he said, adding authorities were investigating the blast.
As many as 22 people were reported injured, including a soldier Private First Class Elwel Kho, who was on a routine security patrol in the area.
Previous bombings in the province were largely blamed to Moro rebels. Last year, more than a dozen people were killed in separate attacks in North Cotabato. (Mindanao Examiner)
