10 killed in Davao City road accident

Chief Editor June 14, 2017

DAVAO CITY – At least 10 people were killed and 6 others seriously injured when a speeding passenger van collided with a truck on Wednesday in Davao City in southern Philippines, police said.

Police said the van collided head on with the truck after it overtook another vehicle on the highway near the village of Tibungco in the district of Bunawan. The injured, including the truck driver, were rushed to the hospital.

Among the dead was the van driver and police said it is investigating the accident. The identities of the injured were not immediately available.

Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte said it seems that authorities have again faltered in their duties and obligations, citing, the Davao City has speed limit ordinance aimed specifically at putting an end to deadly vehicular accidents. “When it was first implemented four years ago, we saw a remarkable decrease on deaths from vehicular accidents. This year though, we again observed an increase on incidents of vehicular mishaps,” he said.

Karon nga naa napod nangamatay mag atik atik napod mo og dakop. Mao di madakpan ni mga van kay naay under the table sa mga traffic officers. Yes that is an accusation because I have informants,” Duterte added. “To the families of the victims, we deeply regret your loss.” (Mindanao Examiner)
