SULU – Some 128 women have finished literacy and livelihood skills training conducted by the Sulu Provincial Women Council Center in partnership with the Alternative Learning System of the Department of Education and the provincial government.
Hajja Nurunisah Tan, head of the Sulu Provincial Women Council Center, praised those who attended and finished the seminars. She emphasized that the learning and skills acquired in the training are avenues toward better opportunities and that enhancing their capacity would empower these women to be productive members of society.
“The SPWC will continue to assists and initiate programs to help alleviate the plight of women. Along with our partner agencies and the support of the Provincial Government, more trainings can be expected in the immediate future,” she said
Among the graduates were 38 women who completed the adult literacy course; 25 completed the baking course, 34 food processing, and 31 passed the dressmaking course.
The graduates were given certificates and tokens in a simple ceremony held at the SPWC Center in Jolo town. Medals were also awarded to students who demonstrated extra qualities in the duration of the course.
Renureve Mustali, a grade 10 student of Notre Dame College, who finished the training on baking, said she has become more productive and started getting orders for native foods.
Among the course instructors who took part in the training were Ferdilina Allih for Adult Literacy; Janin Marfil for food processing; Duchess Vilaz for baking and Palma Sali for dressmaking.
And also Dr. Tim Undain, of the Department of Education; Dr.Abdulnasser Adala, of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and Sulu Area Coordinating Center Executive Director Fazlur Rahman Abdulla, who represented Governor Toto Tan.
