ZAMBOANGA CITY – More than a dozen people, including policemen, were injured in two explosions late Friday outside a mosque near a police base in Sulu province in the southern Philippines, reports said.
It said a grenade exploded and wounded 5 people, three of them minors; and was followed by another blast from an improvised explosive when policemen arrived at the scene to help the injured.
Police and military authorities have not released any report about the daring attacks, but ABS-CBN Television reported that among the wounded were 10 policemen and have identified them as Senior Inspector Jeremy Dogao, Senior Police Officers 1 Johnny Wahi, Benhar Ladjamalik; and Police Officers 1 Arkis Duran, Tantung Muksan, Emmanuel Abin, Hinaro Accad, Elorde Alem, Al-Aziz Sakilan and Mark Tulavan.
It said 5 civilians were also injured in the grenade explosion – Sildaya Imbay, 38; Alrasheed Imbay, 11; Arsheeda Imbay, 7; Faujiya Mudah, 12; and Yvonne Aya-Ay, 22.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the twin explosions, but previous attacks in the province had been largely blamed to the notorious Abu Sayyaf rebels which is being linked by authorities to the al-Qaeda, Jemaah Islamiya and ISIS. (Mindanao Examiner)
