ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 16, 2012) – Two children who were allegedly caught stealing by a house owner were murdered and their bodies burned in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, police said Monday.

It said the house owner, Alfredo Miranda, was arrested and is facing criminal charges for allegedly killing Jesidel Manalo, 11, and John Mendoza, 9.

The duo was collecting scrap metals and were said to have entered Miranda’s house in Talon-Talon village.

The children were first reported missing over the weekend after they failed to return home, but witnesses told police that the duo was last seen entering Miranda’s house.

Policemen searched the house and found bloodstains that led them to the burned bodies of the children.

Police said Miranda was leaving alone in the house. It was not immediately known whether the man was suffering from mental illness. (Mindanao Examiner)
