2 foreigners kidnapped in Afghanistan, police say – CNN News

Editor August 8, 2016

Two foreigners were abducted in the western part of Kabul on Sunday evening local time, the city’s police chief told CNN.

The Australian Foreign Affairs and Trade Department confirmed in an email to CNN that one of those taken was Australian.
The US State Department said it’s aware of reports that an American citizen was kidnapped in Kabul, but would not offer any more information due to privacy concerns.
Kabul Police Chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi did not provide additional information about the nationality of those kidnapped. He said the investigation is ongoing.
The pair were kidnapped in the area of Sanatorium in western Kabul.
The incident comes after six tourists were injured Thursday when a rocket struck the vans they were traveling in.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.( Masoud Popalzai and Joshua Berlinger, CNN)
