ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 5, 2012) – Security forces have recovered two 81mm mortar bombs abandoned at a village in the southern Philippine port city of Zamboanga, officials said Saturday.
Officials said residents discovered the bombs Friday night in the village called Cabatangan and reported it to the authorities.
“EOD teams retrieved the live mortars. We still don’t know who left it in the village and why,” Army Colonel Buenaventura Pascual, commander of an anti-terrorist task force, told the Mindanao Examiner.
EOD refers to explosive ordnance disposal.
No individuals or group claimed ownership of the bombs, which had been used by rebels and terrorists in attacks in the past in Zamboanga and other parts of the southern Philippines. (Mindanao Examiner)
