ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 25, 2012) – Police have filed criminal charges against 2 pedicab drivers for allegedly carrying a homemade shotgun in the southern Filipino port city of Zamboanga, officials said on Wednesday.
Officials said the two men – Rudy Mendoza and Jose Limbas – were nabbed by policemen during an anti-robbery operation in the village called Santa Maria. A third man, who was only identified as Hagon, managed to escape and is being hunted down by police forces.
It was not immediately known whether the two men were involved in robbery incidents in the village or members of a criminal gang.
Officials said the duo also violated the month-long gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections because of the recently concluded registration of voters in the Muslim autonomous region. (Angelie Cahulugan)
