2 Sayyaf men captured in Southern Philippines

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police are holding 2 Abu Sayyaf members after they were captured following a running gun battle in the town of Jolo in the southern Philippine province of Sulu.

The two men – Jurpin Abdulhalim and Ayatollah Arabah – tried to flee after failing to abduct a woman late on Saturday in Busbus village.The woman was on a moto2 Sayyaf men captured in Jolo> alrcycle taxi when the duo blocked their path and attempted to take her, but she managed to run and sought help from policemen near the area.
Officers pursued the duo and engaged them in a firefight until the men had been cornered and captured. Policemen recovered pistols from the two rebels, who were also wanted by the authorities for various criminal charges ranging from murders to ransom kidnappings.
Authorities have linked the Abu Sayyaf to the spate of kidnappings and terrorism in the southern Philippines and also tied to Al-Qaeda and Jemaah islamiya, and has recently allied itself to ISIS. (Mindanao Examiner)
