DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 6, 2012) – Two civilians were wounded after communist rebels attacked a military detachment in the southern Philippines, officials said Friday.
Officials said the New People’s Army attack occurred in the village of Malamodao in Compostela Valley’s Maco town.
Lt. Col Camilo Ligayo, commander of 71st Infantry Battalion, said rebels fired rifle grenade on the post, but it hit a house nearby and the explosion wounded a 44-year old woman and her 16-year old son.
“This atrocity is a clear manifestation of the NPA’s human rights violation,” he said, adding, the same group was also behind a similar attack in February in the town that killed 3 civilians and wounded two others.
There was no immediate statement from the NPA, which has been fighting for decades for the establishment of a Maoist state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
