ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 24, 2013) – Police arrested on Wednesday two village officials after they were spotted brandishing shotguns in the town of Titay in Zamboanga Sibugay province, officials said.
Officials said policemen responded to a report about a firefight between warring politicians in the village of Kipit, but this turned out to be false.
And on their way back to the headquarters, policemen spotted the village chieftain William Tabiliran carrying a shot gun and arrested him.
They also intercepted Filemon Dampayla, a village chieftain in nearby Dalisay, and also arrested him for possessing a homemade shotgun.
Both village officials violated a strict gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections because of next month’s local and national polls.
Insp. Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said appropriate charges would be filed against the duo.(Mindanao Examiner)
