
ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 30, 2014) – Three people were killed and 8 others wounded in a failed jailbreak in Siocon town in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Norte, police said Saturday.
Police said a prisoner shot Jail Officer 1 Ryanbell Bagon after grabbing his gun while opening the door of a cell on Friday evening to let another prisoner inside. Two prisoners, Precioso and Rowel Homoc, were also killed in the shootout that followed shortly.
Eight others, including four prisoners, were also wounded in the exchange of fire.
Police identified the wounded as Police Officer 3 Rommel Intud Jay Hachuela, Police Officer 1 Paul Oliver Tomboc, Jail Officers 2 Roldan Felizarta and Jail Officer 1 Patrick Galvez, and prisoners Lito Magsayo, Wilmark Canunyo, Reneboy Homoc and Zanaida Inso and were all brought to the Siocon District Hospital.
Jail authorities were investigating the incident. (Ely Dumaboc)
