ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 5, 2012) – At least 3 people were killed and over a dozen other wounded in a bomb attack late Saturday in the southern Filipino city of Iligan, security officials said.
“An improvised explosive device exploded in downtown Iligan and at least three people were dead and 20 others are wounded in the blast,” Army Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, a spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command, told the Mindanao Examiner.
He said the blast occurred at around 8 p.m., but it was not immediately known who were behind the attack, although the city had been previously bombed by Muslim rebels.
Cabangbang said they are still awaiting reports. He said the blast targeted a favorite place popular among locals for its restaurants and live rock bands called “El Centro.”
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the explosion and authorities were investigating the attack whether it was connected to terrorism or gang war. (Mindanao Examiner)
