
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 13, 2012) – Unidentified gunmen killed three trader in an attack Thursday in Lamitan City in the restive southern Philippine province of Basilan, local authorities said.
It said the three men were shot dead at a station buying latex from rubber farm workers in the village of Maligaya.
Police said the gunmen also carted away some P500,000 from the buying station, raising suspicion that robbery was the motive of the attack.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killings, but the province is a known lair of bandits and rebels, blamed for the spate of killings and kidnappings for ransom in Basilan. (Mindanao Examiner)
