MAGUINDANAO – A roadside explosion has killed 3 people and left three others wounded in the restive Muslim province of Maguindanao in southern Philippines, officials said on Wednesday.
Officials said rebels detonated an improvised explosive late Tuesday that hit a passenger van in the village of Lower Salbu in Datu Saudi Ampatuan town. The blast killed 2 men and a woman.
The wounded – couple Norodin and Agabay Macabangin and their child Hamod – were rushed to hospital.
The explosion occurred just as army soldiers were battling Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Maguindanao, one of 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous region. Two soldiers were wounded in the Tuesday fighting.
The BIFF is fighting for independence in southern Philippines. (Ely Dumaboc and Rose Muneza)
