TACURONG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 31, 2014) – Police said three gunmen robbed a pawnshop after disarming a security guard in Tacurong City in the southern Philippine province of Sultan Kudarat.
Superintendent Junny Buenacosa, the local police chief, said the robbers barged into the Agencia Solo owned by Lorena and Susan Ong and disarmed Benigno Llanera before breaking the glass display containing assorted jewelleries using a pipe wrench.
The robbers fled on a motorcycle towards the town of Isulan minutes after the daring heist. Buenacosa said they pursued the gunmen after receiving the reports, but the robbers managed to get away.
It was unknown whether the three men were members of a gang or not. Police did not say if the robbery was caught on surveillance cameras around the area.
Buenacosa urged establishment owners to tighten their security and install more security cameras to protect them from lawless elements. (Rose Muneza, Deanna Diaz and Sheen Pania)
