PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 10, 2014) – Three communist rebels have surrendered to the Philippine Army in the southern province Zamboanga del Sur, a spokesman said Monday.
Capt. Jefferson Mamauag, of the 1st Infantry Division, said trio – Jenjen, 18; Denden, 20; and Bryan, 25 – all surnamed Noay surrendered to the 5th Infantry Battalion under Lt. Col. Johnson Jemae Aseron in Bayog town.
It was unknown whether the three were brothers. Mamauag said the three were members of the New People’s Army’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee.
He said the rebels also surrendered an old rifle and homemade shotgun and a fragmentation grenade.
Maj. Gen. Felicito Virgilio Trinidad, the army division commander, assured the safety of the rebels who are currently being interrogated by the military in the province.
“The 1st Infantry Division will work with other stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of the three rebels and their families. Again, three lost brothers have been found,” he said in a statement.
