ZAMBOANGA CITY – Three people were injured following a bomb blast late Friday outside a police station in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said the blast occurred on a pick-up truck parked outside the police station in the coastal village of Ayala. The truck and several motorcycles were destroyed from the powerful blast.

Among the injured was a 14-year old boy. His mother said the boy suffered injuries in the face and body. Two other adults, Magdelena Araneta, 60; and Elasebio Enriquez, 76, were also rushed to the hospital. Both suffered injuries from the bomb explosion.

No individual claimed responsibility for the attack, but witnesses said they saw a boy running away from the truck before the explosion. “I saw a boy, probably around nine years old, tinkering something and then he ran away and there was an explosion,” one woman told a local television news channel e-Media.

The blast occurred just hours after a Catholic procession in Zamboanga City. It was unknown who was behind the bombing or whether the attack was carried out by the rebel group Abu Sayyaf. (Christina Diabordo)
