3 people kidnapped in Iligan City

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Three people have been kidnapped in the southern Filipino city of Iligan and their captors demanded ransom for the safe release of all victims, security officials said on Wednesday afternoon.

Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela, a spokeswoman for the Western Mindanao Command, said the victims – Ely Marie Francis Delles Te and Rafael Lat, both 18 years old; and Efhros Fernandez – were seized late Monday.

“Further reports disclosed that the abductors demanded five hundred thousand pesos for the safe release of the victims. Authorities are currently conducting pursuit operations to track down the perpetrators,” she said.

She said police and military were conducting joint operations to rescue the victims.

No other details were made available by the military. No individual claimed responsibility for the kidnappings and It was unknown whether rebels were involved or not.

Gunmen raided a tourist island in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines and seized 3 people before dawn Monday, police said.

Just recently, more than a dozen gunmen in camouflage uniform swooped down on the tourist island of Aliguay in Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte and abducted two Coast Guard personnel – Gringo Villaruz and Rodlyn Pagaling – and the island’s chieftain Roberto Buligao.

The island is just 45 minutes by boat from Dakak Resort and is a favorite destination of local and foreign tourists.

Unidentified armed men also seized the finance officer of a mining firm in Tawi-Tawi’s Bongao town. The victim, Nonong Garcia, was abducted by four masked gunmen. (Mindanao Examiner)
