FOUR INDIANS nationals will soon be deported for illegally staying in the country, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Tuesday.
BI Intelligence Division (ID) chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. identified them as Manjot Singh, Mandeep Singh, Boota Singh, and Gurpreet Singh.
“All four were later brought to the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa pending their deportation proceedings,” he said in a statement.
Armed with a mission order signed by Commissioner Jaime Morente, the BI agents arrested the foreigners in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental last August 22.
The order was issued after the BI chief received complaints about the alleged “5-6” lending activities of the foreign nationals.
BI Intelligence Officer Jude Hinolan, who led the arresting team, noted that Manjot Singh will be deported for harboring and concealing Mandeep Singh, who is an overstaying alien in the country.
“Under the immigration act, to harbor, employ or give comfort to overstaying or illegally staying alien in the country is a serious offense,” he explained.
As for Boota Singh and Gurpreet Singh, the BI official noted they stumbled upon the two in a nearby neighborhood as both were found to be undocumented when they could not present their passports or any other travel documents.
On the other hand, Morente appealed to the public especially those residing outside Metro Manila, for their cooperation by reporting to the Bureau the presence of any illegal alien in their area.
He noted that they need the support of the people to help them in their campaign against foreigners who are illegally staying in the country.
“We do not have enough manpower to monitor and detect the presence of all these aliens, thus we need the active cooperation and involvement of the public, including local and barangay officials, in our campaign against illegal aliens,” the BI chief added. (By Ferdinand Patinio)
