COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 15, 2012) – Four members of Muslim family were wounded in an attack early Saturday by gunmen in the restive southern Philippine province of Maguindanao, officials told the Mindanao Examiner.
Officials said gunmen strafed the house at around 3.30 a.m. in the village of Tugaig in Barira town just about 300 meters from an army detachment.
One family member, who sought help from soldiers and pro-government militias manning the army post, said at least 9 gunmen were involved in the attack.
Officials said the attackers had escaped before soldiers could arrive in the village. Troops brought the victims to the headquarters of the 603rd Infantry Brigade where they were given medical treatment for gunshot wounds.
Initial military investigation suggests the attack was connected to family feud. The clan war is not uncommon in the southern region where hundreds of people had died the past decades due to violence. (Mindanao Examiner)
