Sulu breaks ground for new gymnasium

SULU – The Sulu Provincial Government is set to start construction of a multi-purpose gymnasium in the historical town of Maimbung, local officials said Friday.

Officials said the gymnasium would be constructed inside the compound of the Sultan Mohammad Jamalul Kiram Elementary School in the village of Laum.

Governor Toto Tan led the ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday and was attended by education and municipal government led by Mayor Samier Tan and provincial officials. Influential philanthropist and former governor Sakur Tan and military officials led by Colonel Francisco Felizidario, commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade, were also invited to the event.

Sulu provincial government photos show Governor Toto Tan leading the ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday and was attended by education and municipal government led by Mayor Samier Tan and provincial officials. Influential philanthropist and former governor Sakur Tan and military officials led by Colonel Francisco Felizidario, commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade, were also invited to the event.

Hundreds of students witnessed the ceremony. The Maimbung Technical Vocational School also praised the project and thanked the provincial leadership for the gymnasium. Tan has lined up many infrastructure projects and programs aimed at improving not only the welfare of the locals, but to hasten the economic progress of the province. (Mindanao Examiner)
