ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY (Mindanao Examiner / July 1, 2014) – Five suspected robbers on three motorbikes opened fire on a truck travelling in Zamboanga Sibugay province after its driver ignored warnings to stop, police said Tuesday.
Police said there were no casualties in the attack, but the shooting damaged the truck’s side mirror. The truck driver, Rolando Batac, said the gunmen tried to block their path on the highway near the village of Mirangan in Siay town, but he did not stop fearing they would be harmed or robbed by the gang.
Batac told police investigators that he and three passengers were heading to Cagayan de Oro City from Ipil town when the incident occurred.
Policemen rushed to the area, but did not catch up with the gunmen, who were believed behind several highway robberies in the province.
Just last December, a bus passenger was injured after he was attacked by one of five gunmen who robbed them in the town of Ipil. The gunmen boarded the bus, owned by Rural Transit Mindanao, and pretended to be passengers and declared the robbery. (Mindanao Examiner)
