COTABATO CITY – Police arrested 5 people after they yielded suspected crystal methamphetamine and weapons at a checkpoint in Maguindanao province in the Muslim autonomous region in southern Philippines.
The men were travelling in a pickup truck when policemen flagged them down on a village in Rajah Buayan town over the weekend. It was unknown whether the police received information or intelligence about the gang’s activities or whether they are members of a drug syndicate in the province.
Police said it seized the drugs, including an M16 automatic rifle and a .45-caliber pistol and some P30,000 in cash.
It did not say if any of those arrested were on the police drug list, but President Rodrigo Duterte has tagged Maguindanao as a source of illegal drugs in the region. (Mindanao Examiner)
