CEBU – Authorities here have seized some 5 tons of dried shark fins while being transported in a container van Mandaue City in the central Philippine province of Cebu.

The provincial government said citizens have provided information to authorities about the cargo. A joint team from the Lapu-Lapu City Task Force Kalikasan and the Cebu Province Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force quickly intercepted the van.

The dried fins are said to be bound for Qian Hang Trading Corporation in Hong Kong.

Local authorities said the shipper of the fins is facing chargers for violating Ordinance 2012-05 or the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ordinance of Cebu. (Cebu Examiner)
