6 cops slain, 15 more wounded in rebel attack in Philippines

Desk Editor February 18, 2016

MANILA – The Philippines’ police force confirmed the killing of 6 cops by communist rebels in an ambush in the northern province of Cagayan that also left 15 others injured.

The policemen were investigating the burning of heavy equipment by New People’s Army rebels in Baggao town on February 16.

“The Philippine National Police condemns in the strongest terms the latest act of hostility of the communist New People’s Army in Cagayan wherein 6 policemen were killed and 15 injured while conducting an investigation on the burning of heavy equipment by the NPAs in an ongoing project in Baggao Cagayan.”

“The acts of the NPA clearly show their utter disregard of human lives and concern of the welfare of the local populace despite of the effort of the government to uplift the well being of the people of Cagayan thru sustained development. The NPAs action manifests their purpose to harass those that are working for the improvement of the standard of living of the people contrary to the ideology being propagated by their group,” said Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor, the police spokesman.

Mayor also asked the public to denounce the killings and help in the arrest of the rebels responsible in the attack by providing information on their whereabouts.

“We urge our people to denounce these acts of the NPA and support the effort of the government by providing us information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” he said.

There was no immediate statement from the NPA which is fighting for a separate Maoist state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
