6 Sayyaf killed, 11 others injured in fresh fighting in Southern Philippines

Editor February 27, 2015

ZAMBOANGA CITY – More than a dozen rebels and soldiers were killed and wounded in a clash Friday in the southern Filipino island of Sulu, officials said.

Officials said the fighting broke out in Buhanginan village in Patikul town where six Abu Sayyaf gunmen were killed and four others wounded. Seven soldiers were also injured in the clash, according to Captain Antonio Bulao, a spokesman for the Joint Task Group Sulu.

He said the troops fought rebel forces under Radulan Sahiron.

Colonel Alan Arrojado, commander of the Joint Task Group Sulu, said security forces were pursuing the Abu Sayyaf, tagged by authorities as behind the spate of ransom kidnappings and killings in the southern region. (Mindanao Examiner)
