6 tremors hit Philippines

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 18, 2014) – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said it recorded at least 6 moderate tremors on Friday.

It said the first quake with a magnitude of 3.4 occurred at 12:40 a.m. and that its epicenter was traced about 5 kilometers southeast of Cateel town in Davao Oriental province in Mindanao.

The second tremor with a magnitude of 3.2 struck at 3:37 a.m. Its epicenter was located 22 kilometers southwest of Cabangan, Zambales province in Luzon.

Another quake with a magnitude of 3.2 also struck Cotabato in Mindanao at around 9:09 a.m. and its epicenter was traced 94 kilometers southwest of Cotabato City.

The fourth tremor with a magnitude of 3.2 was recorded at 9:53 a.m. Its epicenter was traced 22 kilometers northeast of Tagbilaran City in Bohol in the Visayas. And at around 10:19 a.m., a magnitude 2.7 quake struck the province of La Union in Luzon and its epicenter was traced 55 kilometers northwest of Luna town.

The 6th tremor with a magnitude of 3.1 struck at 10:37 a.m. Its epicenter was located 28 kilometers northeast of Butuan City in Mindanao.

There were no reports of damages to structure, the agency said.

It said at least 25 earthquakes occur daily in the country.
